Jenny Writes Again

Hello Dear Readers,

My name is Jenny Hoppins. I’m a writer from Goodrich, Michigan and Greensboro, North Carolina. I have a loving and supportive family, solid friendships, and the best dog in the universe. I also have a pretty great job, after years and years of feeling stuck in jobs that burdened me physically and emotionally.

You wouldn’t envy me though, as I am also among the people living with a traumatic brain injury and post concussion syndrome. The primary teaching from this situation is to allow myself, and my brain, plenty of good nutrition, exercise, and sleep. It has not been easy, at all.

After taking a long break in my writing due to navigating loss of vision from post concussion syndrome, I’m delighted to be back at my creative projects. One year ago, I hoped my symptoms were not permanent. With time, I am confident that I’ve healed enough to read, research, and write again. I’m advised to take things slow.

Most recently, I traveled to Hendersonville, NC to see a staged reading of Vent, a play written by Judy Klass. Judy is my playwriting mentor and I loved seeing her in person for the first time. After the reading, I was invited to submit a play to a page to stage opportunity at the same theatre in Hendersonville. This inspired me to get busy crafting my website, uploading my plays to NPX, and posting for the first time in a private networking group.

I’m also in the midst of editing my debut middle grade novel, The Mathematical Journey of an Ordinary Girl, developed from my play, Dear Math, which I adapted for a school tour that was produced in Guilford County schools in 2018.

I’m so very greatful you’re here. Thank you for being a supporter of my creative life! I hope I can be a support to you through these letters. Whatever you do to feed your heart’s calling, may you receive all the good in return.

Be well,

Jenny
